The Bernardo Tour Route will be closed to vehicle and walk‐in access on Saturday, December 7, 2019 until 1:00 PM to ensure public safety during youth hunts on the Bernardo Wildlife Management Area.
This clinic is sponsored by the Las Cruces area Girl Scouts. We will begin the clinic with a lesson on fish biology including proper fish handling techniques. This will be followed with a lesson on knots, equipment assembly, hook safety, casting and baits. The scouts and their families will spend the rest of the day fishing. This event is closed to the public and is only for this group.

This workshop is in support of Trout in the Classroom. We will begin the workshop with a discussion on habitat and water quality. The students will assist in aquarium setup, developing proper feeding schedules and will learn how to complete water quality tests. This event is not open to the public and is only for students of this school.

This will be followed with a lesson on hook safety, knots and equipment assembly. The fishing clinic will be held at Elephant Butte Lake. At the lake, we’ll begin with a review on hook safety and knots followed by casting and baits. We will practice catch and release; however, two fish will be kept and used for a fish dissection lesson that is normally conducted sometime after lunch.
