This classroom session is open to any women who is new to fly fishing. You will learn the basics of fly fishing, equipment selection, fly selection, how to read the the water, landing and releasing skills, what to know before you head out to the water, fishing trip safety, and more! (Casting skills are not covered during this session) This classroom session is a prerequisite to participate in the TU-Ladies Casting Clinic.

The NM Department of Game and Fish is hosting a shotgun shooting training clinic for adult women who have never shot or have very limited experience with shooting shotguns. Trained staff will teach safety, basic shooting techniques, cleaning the gun and how to properly shoot a shotgun and be successful at shooting clays.
Shotguns, ammo and clays will be provided. Please bring a lunch, water, sunscreen and whatever else you need, we will not be taking a full lunch, and there are not any food places near by.

An interactive class will be held for NMWF Interns that provides a high-level overview of angling essentials. This session will be tailored to the interns so that they’ll be able to use knowledge gained to facilitate future fishing days with their respective groups. The class will cover topics such as fish species/anatomy, habitat, diet, understanding fishing gear, tying knots, safety and so on. The participants will be gauged and quizzed throughout the session to ensure they’re retaining the content. This will include hands-on practice casting, rod and reel assembly, and barb pinching.

The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish Off-Highway Vehicle Program will present an ATV safety class provided by the Village of Los Lunas Open Space Division. Students earn the safety permit required for off-highway vehicle operators under the age of 18 years. ATVs and safety gear are available for use during the class.
