The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish Off-Highway Vehicle Program presents an ATV safety class at the old racetrack at the Doña Ana County Fairgrounds, site of the Southern New Mexico State Fair.
Students completing the class receive the safety permit required for off-highway vehicle operators under the age of 18 years on public lands. Students under the age of 18 will also receive a free helmet and goggles.
ATVs and safety gear will be available for use during the class.
Registration Details:
Students must be at least 6 years of age. Space is limited – all students must already have or must create a free account with the Department of Game and Fish (https://onlinesales.wildlife.state.nm.us/), and register prior to the class to ensure that each student will have an age- and size-appropriate training ATV available.
The New Mexico Outdoor Adventures Hunting and Fishing Show was started after Bob Gerding passed to continue his legacy of bringing together people who spend time outdoors in New Mexico. The Department sponsors several activities at this annual event, including a catch-and-release fish pond for kids that gives them an opportunity to win prizes from the many vendors participating. Several calling contests are also taking place, including turkey and elk. Conservation officers will be on hand with the Poach Coach to answer questions, as will several biologists and other Department employees. The event is free to those who have a valid hunting or fishing license. Entry fee is $3 for all others.
Vendor Application is available by contacting Star Gonzales at estelle.gonzales@dgf.nm.gov
