Outdoor Adventures Show

The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish invites you to attend the 2022 New Mexico Outdoor Adventures Hunting & Fishing Show. Admission to the show will be $3 for adults or free to youth under the age of 18 or anyone who holds a valid New Mexico hunting or fishing license.

The annual event opens to the public Friday, noon-6 p.m., Saturday, 9 a.m.- 6 p.m. and Sunday, 10 a.m.- 5 p.m.

This year’s event features hands-on demonstrations of the latest equipment for hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation. Off-highway vehicles, recreational vehicles, boats and kayaks will be on display by local dealers. Conservation organizations, outfitters and guides will be on hand to answer questions. Youth participants will have an opportunity to learn or enhance skills at the free catch-and-release fishing pond. All visitors can enjoy the pellet shooting range, sponsored by the Bernalillo 4-H, and the archery range. A silent auction will give participants the chance to win one of over 10 New Mexico bighorn sheep European-style mounts.

The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish has scheduled a public meeting in order to allow the Citizen Advisory Committee (CAC) to discuss and prioritize current Habitat Stamp Program project opportunities. Members of the public are invited to attend this hybrid public meeting in order to provide comment(s). Current project opportunity summary slides are available to view on the Habitat Stamp Program website. Members of the CAC and the public are encouraged to review project opportunity summary slides in advance of the hybrid public meeting.

This workshop also provides a NM Hunter Education certification to new instructors who need a required NM hunter education number. All participants must register prior to attending. Please see registration details below.

Interested applicants need to first become a certified Game and Fish volunteer. Below are the steps to become a certified volunteer:

3.Once the application is approved, certified volunteers can sign-up for the hunter education workshop through their CIN account

NMDGF will be working the Bernardo Youth Pheasant Hunt. This hunt is only open for youth who drew a permit.

The NMDGF Aquatic Education Program will be fishing with 50 Capitan middle and high school students with the Future Farmers of America (FFA) organization at Alto Lake, New Mexico, on Oct. 15, 2022. NMDGF fishing contractor Casey Harthorn and Dennis Segura will be working the event. This event is closed to the public.

Video Series Premiere – Drawing Your Way to Success!

Join New Mexico Department of Game and Fish Communications Director Darren Vaughan and Licensing Operations Manager Chad Nelson as they discuss the ins and outs of the 2023-2024 Big Game Draw in the first video of the department’s “Drawing Your Way to Success” series. The video will premiere at 5 p.m. MST Friday, Jan. 20 on YouTube at https://youtu.be/IYFnzBK28oU. The video will be available from this date forward for you to watch at your convenience. We will be premiering additional videos to help you throughout the draw season. The deadline for Draw 1 (bear and turkey) is Feb. 15 at 5 p.m. MST, and the deadline for Draw 2 (Barbary sheep, bighorn sheep, deer, elk, ibex, javelina, pronghorn, oryx, and private-land only deer licenses in Units 2A, 2B, 2C, 4 and 5A) is March 22 at 5 p.m. MST. This course is open to students of any age seeking hunter education certification to meet hunting requirements in New Mexico. This course is an instructor-led, student course that incorporates lecture, video, break-out sessions, review methods and homework to educate students. Students 10 and under must have a parent/adult present with them during class. All students MUST complete the Today’s Hunter student manual homework before participating in class. Students can pick up a free hard copy manual at the Grant Co. Extension Office in Silver City. The manual can also be downloaded for free at, www.hunter-ed.com/newmexico/manual/. Students are required to turn in their completed manual worksheets upon arrival to class.

Registration opens on Jan. 20 at 9 a.m. and is conducted online through the students Customer Id Number (CIN) Account. Once in the account, click on Hunter Education then click the Register for Hunter Ed Classes button and follow the prompts.

Come join us Wed., Feb. 8 at 6 p.m. either in person in Albuquerque at Nexxus Brewing, 4730 Pan American Fwy NE, or in Las Cruces at the SW Area Game and Fish Office, 2715 Northrise Dr. If you are unable to participate in person you can register to participate virtually at the link provided below.

We are making ourselves available to help you navigate through the Big Game Rules and Information Booklet and how to use this resource to apply for the 2023-2024 hunt season. If you had a hunt this past season and are unfamiliar with how to fill out your harvest report, we can help!

Hunt applications can be entered on a computer, laptop, tablet or phone! Bring one of these devices with you or one will be available if you don’t have one. While this event is focused on ladies, but we welcome everyone to join us.

Each agency, along with other partners, will be available to answer questions as well as register veterans for programs, services and opportunities during this event. The Game and Fish Department will specifically provide information on hunting and angling opportunities available to veterans as well as provide help in purchasing licenses and applying for hunting opportunities through the public draw.
