The Department of Game and Fish Off-Highway Vehicle Program will provide an off-highway motorcycle safety training. Due to the limitations of access to the air force base, this training is provided only to the public that has official access to the base and is on a first-come first-served basis. Students must be at least six years old. Training machines and safety gear are available. Parents must remain on-site during training. Each student should bring weather appropriate clothing (gloves, boots, long pants and long sleeved shirt), a snack or lunch, water and sunscreen.

Mr. Lucas Herrera sponsors a fishing club at Aspen Community School and has invited NMDGF to visit and conduct a casting skills lesson for his club members. There will be 22 youth casting for backyard bass and learning how to cast for accuracy and distance as well as proper technique. This is a closed event and will only include members of the fishing club as well as two staff members.

The first two days are scheduled for the students and caregivers while the third day is for the students and their families. Historically, we have seen over 150 students during the first two days. The teachers have been working with the students since the beginning of the school year on casting, etc., so our goal for this event is to simply get the kids fishing and catch fish. Twenty-three high school students from Los Puentes Charter School will be fishing at Tingley Beach. Students have participated in Mr. Cogburn’s Outdoor Education class and have been practicing backyard bass casting skills, knot tying and how to rig a fishing rod.
