All-Terrain Vehicle Safety Training (ATV) @ Los Lunas River Park

The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish Off-Highway Vehicle Program presents an ATV safety class provided by the Village of Los Lunas Open Space Division. Students completing the class receive the safety permit required for off-highway vehicle operators under the age of 18 years.

ATVs and safety gear are available for use during the class.

Students must be at least 6 years of age. Space is limited – all students must already have or must create a free account with the Department of Game and Fish (https://onlinesales.wildlife.state.nm.us/), and register prior to the class. This ensures that each student will have an age- and size-appropriate training ATV available.

Hunter Education Instructor Training Workshop @ New Mexico Department of Game and Fish Southwest Area Office

This workshop is required to become a certified hunter education instructor and will certify the individual to teach both the Traditional and the Field Day Hunter Education student courses.

This workshop also provides a New Mexico Hunter Education certification to new instructors who need a required New Mexico hunter education number.

Interested applicants need to first become a certified Game and Fish volunteer. Below are the steps to become a certified volunteer:

Join New Mexico Department of Game and Fish Communications Director Darren Vaughan and Licensing Operations Manager Chad Nelson as they discuss the ins and outs of the 2023-2024 Big Game Draw in the first video of the department’s “Drawing Your Way to Success” series. The video will premiere at 5 p.m. MST Friday, Jan. 20 on YouTube at https://youtu.be/IYFnzBK28oU. The video will be available from this date forward for you to watch at your convenience. We will be premiering additional videos to help you throughout the draw season. The deadline for Draw 1 (bear and turkey) is Feb. 15 at 5 p.m. MST, and the deadline for Draw 2 (Barbary sheep, bighorn sheep, deer, elk, ibex, javelina, pronghorn, oryx, and private-land only deer licenses in Units 2A, 2B, 2C, 4 and 5A) is March 22 at 5 p.m. MST. Is applying for hunts intimidating? Does it make your brain hurt? Are you new and don’t know where to start? Maybe you want to know how to read the available draw hunt odds to improve your hunting opportunities. Perhaps you just need a little guidance on the draw application process. If any of these apply to you, or maybe you have other reasons or questions, come join us! We are making ourselves available to help you navigate through the Big Game Rules and Information Booklet and how to use this resource to apply for the 2023-2024 hunt season. If you had a hunt this past season and are unfamiliar with how to fill out your harvest report, we can help!

Hunt applications can be entered on a computer, laptop, tablet or phone! Bring one of these devices with you or one will be available if you don’t have one. While this event is focused on ladies, but we welcome everyone to join us.

Students can pick up a free hard copy manual at Bluewater Lake State Park, 30 Bluewater St. Park Rd., Prewitt, or the manual can be downloaded for free at anytime from, hunter-ed.com/newmexico/manual/.
