18th Annual Dragonfly Festival @ Bitter Lake National Wildlife Refuge

The 18th Annual Dragonfly Festival will be held Sept. 7. The Department of Game and Fish will have a fishing pond, archery range, poach coach and wildlife identification information on site. No fee or registration is required to attend this event. However, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will be offering free guided wildlife tours. Reservations are required for these tours. Gallinas Riverfest @ Las Vegas, NM

Come to the Gallinas Riverfest in Las Vegas Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Department staff will join Hermit’s Peak Watershed Alliance, Trout Unlimited, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and community partners to help you learn how to cast, tie knots, identify the best fishing holes and how to care for a fly rod. NASP 2020 New Mexico State Championship @ Albuquerque Convention Center

Recognized as the fastest growing National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) in the west, the Department’s NASP State Championship will host more than 60 schools and nearly 1,200 archers at this year’s competition. The tournament begins at 8 a.m. at the Albuquerque Convention Center, 401 2nd Street NW, Albuquerque, NM 87102. Individual, elementary, middle and high school champions will be crowned at the awards ceremony at 6 p.m. following the competition.

Daily parking is $6 at the Convention Center Garage and $8 at the Civic Plaza lot.

Fishing Skills and Monitoring @ Jemez River at Battleship Rock

Fisheries Monitoring on the Jemez River @ Valles Caldera and Hummingbird Music Camp

River Source will work with students to participate in fisheries monitoring at two locations on the Jemez River. There will be 25 students present from Los Alamos Middle School. Staffing will be provided by Department contractors, Richard Schrader and Carlos Herrera. The students will compare data collected on fish health and compare upstream and downstream results.

Free Fishing Day 2020

Anglers can fish for free in New Mexico on Saturday, June 6, as the state celebrates National Boating and Fishing Week.

Anyone can fish for free in public fishing waters throughout the state Saturday, June 6, but everyone must observe bag limits and all other rules and regulations. For more information, please visit www.wildlife.state.nm.us.

For information about where to fish and what to use, consult the department’s weekly fishing and stocking report. Maps of public fishing waters, lists of where to find family-friendly fishing and tips on how to fish also can be found on the department website.
