This position will rapidly and seamlessly assume the functions of both paralegal and legal assistant in a small but fast-paced legal office supporting a statewide wildlife services with an authorized strength of 300 FTEs. This position will provide legal support services to the governor-exempt General Counsel, Director and Deputy Director. This position will also work closely with the General Counsel to implement internal office best practices for the management of both judicial and administrative case types, personnel matters (including discipline) and filing of all pleadings. Important secondary duty will be to assume the additional duty of Department IPRA manager I records custodian, designing, developing, implementing and maintaining a coherent, consistent process for the prompt, responsive processing of all IPRA requests. New Mexico law requires anyone younger than 18 to obtain a safety permit prior to operating an OHV on public lands. The Department offers free hands-on ATV or dirt bike training that provides a safety permit after completion. Students must provide a properly registered OHV and all necessary safety equipment.

Jackson Lake Farmworker (DGF #30066)

This position will operate and maintain the Jackson Lake Wildlife Management Area (WMA) and will be responsible for significant overnight travel throughout the state of New Mexico to perform operations and maintenance activities on various Department properties. This position is required to perform the duties of farming, land management, infrastructure/facility maintenance, heavy equipment operation, and administration. Farming responsibilities will include planning, soil preparation, planting, irrigation, weed control, fertilizer application, and crop manipulation for wildlife. This position is required to operate, maintain, and transport heavy equipment including farm tractors and farming implements (plows, sprayers, mowers, etc.), backhoes, road graders, excavators, tractor-trailers, and other heavy equipment. This position will be required to complete administrative tasks such as purchasing, records maintenance, and interacting with the public.

This position provides direct legal services to the Department of Game and Fish, including the director, directorate, division management and technical staff on complex legal issues relating to operational and administrative matters. This position provides comprehensive legal and policy advice regarding situations involving the Endangered Species Act, the state’s Wildlife Conservation Act, IPRA, and other statutes involving wildlife management conducted by the Department. The incumbent will provide legal advice to the Department’s Directorate and, when required, the State Game Commission regarding the Department’s regulation of hunting and fishing in New Mexico, to include review of proposed rule making.
