Have you thought about applying for the 2022 big game draw? The Department is working on an entire series with everything you need to know when applying.

We will meet virtually every week, sometimes multiple times a week, to discuss the draw, how to apply, options for hunter education and reading the draw odds report. We will also have our big game biologists on hand to answer questions.

In this session: Information center supervisor Art Anaya will be joining us for an in-depth look at the Rules and Information Booklet. We will identify the most common questions and help you prepare for the draw to open on January 19.

In this session: Youth under 18 years of age MUST take hunter education before going hunting, but hunter education is good for everyone. Join Jennifer Morgan, hunter education coordinator, to learn the ins and outs of hunter education. We will also talk about the mentored youth program and how you can become a hunter education instructor.

Big Game Draw 2022 – It’s all about the Rules! @ Virtual

In this session: In New Mexico, the Big Game Rules are set on a four-year cycle, determining the state’s hunt dates and harvest limits. 2022 is a big year for the Big Game Rules, and the Department will be opening nine of them. Elise Goldstein, assistant chief for wildlife, will join us to talk about how recommendations are made, the rule process and most importantly, how you can get involved.

Outdoor Adventure Day @ Shady Lakes

The NMDGF Aquatic / Archery Education will be participating in an outdoor experience for 35 disadvantaged Native and Latino students. The students will be participating in six outdoor stations in conjunction with the NMWF. All participants have never fished, or shot with a bow and arrow, and will be introduced to six outdoor station activities.
