Shikar-Safari 2006 Officer of the Year
The annual award from the conservation-based organization. Shikar-Safari
Club International, honored Officer Griego in his outstanding
performance as Conservation Officer during the previous year.
Officer Griego spent countless hours in the field checking licenses,
responding to depredation complaints and still found the ability
to devote a large portion of his time to investigating and assisting
the prosecution in a fraudulent hunting scheme. The Shikar-Safari Club International was
founded in 1952 by an international group of hunters interested
in exchanging ideas about the sport. Each year the club sponsors
an award for the Wildlife Officer of the Year in all 50 states,
10 Canadian provinces and the territories of both nations. In
1966, the Shikar-Safari International Foundation was formed to
support various wildlife conservation projects with funds raised
by club members. Shikar-Safari is recognized worldwide for its
efforts in the protection, enhancement and preservation of wildlife,
and has placed particular emphasis on endangered and threatened
species through the promotion of enforcement of conservation laws
and regulations.
