FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, OCT. 7, 2011:

FISHING BAG LIMITS UNLIMITED AS SUMNER LAKE IS DRAINED

FORT SUMNER –Anglers at Sumner Lake can catch and keep as many sport fish as they like beginning today as the lake is being drained to accommodate downstream irrigation demands.

The emergency salvage order issued by the Department of Game and Fish will remain in effect until the Sumner Lake boat ramp is closed or 11:59 p.m. Nov. 1, whichever comes first. Bag limits will be unlimited for sport fish. Requirements for fishing licenses and rules regarding legal methods of taking fish remain in effect.

The salvage order will not restrict the New Mexico State Parks Division, which operates Sumner Lake State Park, from preventing or limiting access to the lake shore or waters for safety issues or concerns.

For more information about Sumner Lake State Park, please call (575) 355-2541.
