Hunter Education @ Barking Irons

This course is open to students of any age seeking hunter education certification to meet hunting requirements in New Mexico. This course is an instructor-led, student course that incorporates lecture, video, break-out sessions, review methods and homework to educate students. Students age 10 and under must have a parent/adult present with them during class. All students MUST complete the Today’s Hunter student manual homework before participating in class. Students can pick up a free hard-copy manual by contacting Marty Alexander at 505-860-4373. The manual can also be downloaded for free at https://www.hunter-ed.com/newmexico/manual/. Students are required to turn in their completed manual worksheets upon arrival to class.

Registration opens on Feb. 20 and is conducted online through the student’s Customer ID Number (CIN) Account. Once in the account, click on Hunter Education then click the Register for Hunter Ed Classes button and follow the prompts.

Hunter Education – Field Day @ Kewa Library

A Field Day course is an accelerated, instructor-led hunter education course and is for students 10 years of age and older. Students under 11 must have a parent/adult present with them during class. This course incorporates less lecture and review and adds more hands-on components. All students MUST complete the Today’s Hunter student manual homework before class. Students can pick up a free hard copy manual by contacting Ed Rosetta at 505-263-5337 or the manual can be downloaded for free at anytime from, hunter-ed.com/newmexico/manual/. Students are required to turn in their completed manual worksheets upon arrival to class.

Registration opens on Feb. 8, 2023 in person with instructor at Kewa Library, Santo Domingo Pueblo, NM.

Hunter Education with Live Fire @ City of Carlsbad Shooting Range
Feb 25 @ 8:00 am – 12:00 pm

This course is open to students of any age seeking hunter education certification to meet hunting requirements in New Mexico. This course is an instructor-led course that incorporates lecture, video, virtual break-out sessions, review methods and homework to educate students and will also include a live-fire portion on the range (all firearms and ammunition are provided. Personal firearms are not permitted). Students 10 and under must have a parent/adult present with them during class. All students MUST complete the Today’s Hunter student manual homework before participating in class. Students can call the instructor, Richard West, to pick up a free hard-copy manual or the manual can be downloaded for free at https://www.hunter-ed.com/newmexico/manual/. Students are required to turn in their completed manual worksheets upon arrival to class.

ATV Safety Class @ Village of Los Lunas River Park
Feb 25 @ 9:00 am – 1:00 pm

The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish Off-Highway Vehicle Program presents an ATV safety class provided by the Village of Los Lunas Open Space Division. Students earn the safety permit required for off-highway vehicle operators under the age of 18 years.

ATVs and safety gear are available for use during the class.

Space is limited – all students must have a free account with the Department of Game and Fish (https://onlinesales.wildlife.state.nm.us/). Students must be at least 6 years of age.

Veterans Open House @ NW Area Game & Fish Office

The Department of Game and Fish and the Department of Veterans Services have teamed up to provide open house opportunities to community veterans seeking information about unique services and opportunities provided to them. Each agency, along with other partners, will be available to answer questions as well as register veterans for programs, services and opportunities during this event. The Game and Fish Department will specifically provide information on hunting and angling opportunities available to veterans as well as provide help in purchasing licenses and applying for hunting opportunities through the public draw.
