Hunter Education @ City of Clovis Shooting Range

This course is open to students of any age seeking hunter education certification to meet hunting requirements in New Mexico. This course is an instructor-led student course that incorporates lecture, video, break-out sessions,  review methods and homework to educate students. Students 10 and under must have a parent/adult present with them during class. All students MUST complete the Today’s Hunter student manual homework before participating in class. Students can pick up a free hard copy manual at City of Clovis Shooting Range, 726 County Rd. 17, Clovis, NM 88101. The manual can also be downloaded for free at https://www.hunter-ed.com/newmexico/manual/. Students are required to turn in their completed manual worksheets upon arrival to class.

Registration Details:

Registration opens on Jan. 29 and is conducted online through the student’s Customer ID Number (CIN) Account. Once in the account, click on Hunter Education then click the Register for Hunter Ed Classes button and follow the prompts.     

New Mexico Outdoor Adventures Hunting and Fishing Show @ Manuel Lujan Exhibit Complex, Expo New Mexico

The New Mexico Outdoor Adventures Hunting and Fishing Show was started after Bob Gerding passed to continue his legacy of bringing together people who spend time outdoors in New Mexico. The Department sponsors several activities at this annual event, including a catch-and-release fish pond for kids that gives them an opportunity to win prizes from the many vendors participating. Several calling contests are also taking place, including turkey and elk. Conservation officers will be on hand with the Poach Coach to answer questions, as will several biologists and other Department employees. The event is free to those who have a valid hunting or fishing license. Entry fee is $3 for all others.

Adult Women-Beginner Shotgun Shooting Clinic @ City of Albuquerque Shooting Range Park

The NM Department of Game and Fish is hosting a shotgun shooting training clinic for adult women who have never shot or have very limited experience with shooting shotguns. Trained staff will teach safety, basic shooting techniques, cleaning the gun and how to properly shoot a shotgun and be successful at shooting clays.

Shotguns, ammo and clays will be provided. Please bring a lunch, water, sunscreen and whatever else you need, we will not be taking a full lunch, and there are not any food places near by.

Registration opens March 11 and closes April 1, or when the class is full.

National Wild Turkey Federation WITO Event @ Cloudcroft, NM

The Department will participate at the NWTF Women in the Outdoors Event (WITO) in Cloudcroft, NM. Department staff will be assisting with fishing, turkey calling/hunting and turkey life history presentations.

3-D Archery Adventure with SMU-in-Taos @ Fort Burgwin

SMU-in-Taos Summer College Program will participate in a 3-D Archery Adventure Shoot. College-age students will walk a pre-determined course in small groups. Each archer gets a one to three shots at a three-dimensional target shaped like an animal. The targets on the animals cover the vital areas where a hunter would normally aim. These courses challenge archers to adapt their shooting to account for variable conditions, distances and angles. Students will learn how to score a target and track their individual score.

Private event. – Must be pre-enrolled through the SMU-in-Taos summer program.

Each archer gets one to three shots at a three-dimensional target shaped like an animal. The targets on the animals cover the vital areas where a hunter would normally aim. This course challenge archers to adapt their shooting to account for variable conditions, distances, and angles. Participants will learn how to score a target and track their individual score.
