ATV Safety Class @ Doña Ana County Fairgrounds Racetrack

The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish Off-Highway Vehicle Program presents an ATV safety class at the old racetrack at the Doña Ana County Fairgrounds, site of the Southern New Mexico State Fair.

Students completing the class receive the safety permit required for off-highway vehicle operators under the age of 18 years on public lands. Students under the age of 18 will also receive a free helmet and goggles.

ATVs and safety gear will be available for use during the class.

Students must be at least 6 years of age. Space is limited; all students must already have or must create a free account with the Department of Game and Fish (https://onlinesales.wildlife.state.nm.us/), and register prior to the class. This ensures that each student will have an age and size-appropriate training ATV available.

Bowhunter Skills Camp @ City of Carlsbad Shooting Range
Dec 17 @ 9:00 am – 3:00 pm

This camp is for participants of any age who are interested in learning more about the basics of archery and bowhunting. Participants will learn archery basics and safety, how to choose equipment, proper shot placement while hunting, outdoor preparedness and more! All archery equipment will be provided; however, you are encouraged to bring your own equipment if you have it. Participants are responsible for food and drinks.

Registration opens Nov. 7. Registration forms will be available for download off the following Game & Fish web page, https://www.wildlife.state.nm.us/education/skills-camps/ and click on the Shooting tab. All participants must have a Department Customer Id Number (CIN) Account and enter this number onto the registration form. Youth under 18 must have a parent or adult present during the camp.

Wildlife Presentation at Unitarian Church

NMDGF will be giving a wildlife presentation to students who are part of an after school program. Students will be second grade through fifth grade. This event is closed to the public.

Hunter Education – Farmington @ Merrion Oil & Gas Corporation

This course is open to students of any age seeking hunter education certification to meet hunting requirements in New Mexico. This course is an instructor-led, student course that incorporates lecture, video, break-out sessions, review methods and homework to educate students. Students 10 and under must have a parent/adult present with them during class. All students MUST complete the Today’s Hunter student manual homework before participating in class. Students can pick up a free hard copy manual at Merrion Oil & Gas Corporation, 610 Reilly Ave., Farmington, NM 87401. The manual can also be downloaded for free at, www.hunter-ed.com/newmexico/manual/. Students are required to turn in their completed manual worksheets upon arrival to class.

Registration opens on Dec. 27 and is conducted online through the students Customer Id Number (CIN) Account. Once in the account, click on Hunter Education then click the Register for Hunter Ed Classes button and follow the prompts.

Ladies Hunting and Angling Social Hour @ Virtual on Zoom

Join us Tuesday, Jan. 17 at 5:30 p.m. for an inspirational and uplifting journey on how avid outdoors woman, Joni Marie got started. She will highlight her trials and errors of learning to shoot and hunt with a rifle after being an avid bowhunter all of her life. Not only will you learn about archery and bowhunting basics from an expert during this session you will learn through a novice’s recent, personal experiences with adapting to shoot a rifle and you will find her inspirational narrative worth joining.
