NMDGF Aquatic Education will be working with 20 Tesuque Pueblo youth practicing casting skills at the Tesuque Pueblo Intergenerational Center on Sept. 24. The group will follow up with a fishing day on Sept. 25 on their own. This event is closed to the public.

National Hunting & Fishing Day 2022

Anglers can fish for free in New Mexico on Saturday, Sept. 25, as the state celebrates National Hunting and Fishing Day.

Anyone can fish for free in public fishing waters throughout the state Saturday, Sept. 24, but everyone must observe bag limits and all other rules and regulations. For more information, please visit

All-Terrain Vehicle Safety Training (ATV) @ Los Lunas River Park

The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish Off-Highway Vehicle Program presents an ATV safety class provided by the Village of Los Lunas Open Space Division. Students completing the class receive the safety permit required for off-highway vehicle operators under the age of 18 years.

ATVs and safety gear are available for use during the class.

Students must be at least 6 years of age. Space is limited – all students must already have or must create a free account with the Department of Game and Fish (, and register prior to the class. This ensures that each student will have an age- and size-appropriate training ATV available.

Hunter Education – Dexter, New Mexico @ Dexter High School

This course will be conducted during the school day to Dexter High School students seeking hunter education certification to meet hunting requirements in New Mexico. This course is an instructor-led, student course that incorporates lecture, video, break-out sessions, review methods and homework to educate students. All students will complete the Today’s Hunter student manual homework during class. Students pick up a free hard copy manual during Felix Hernandez’s class. The manual can also be downloaded for free at event is closed to the public.

Classroom Presentations and Fishing Clinic @ Eagle Nest Elementary School
Sep 26 @ 8:30 pm – Sep 27 @ 2:30 am

NMDGF will give presentations that focus on fish biology, fishing safety, fishing knots, rules and regulations, equipment preparation, casting and fishing opportunities in New Mexico. At the lake, the students will assemble their gear and go fishing. We normally practice catch and release; however, a few fish will be kept for dissection purposes. This event is closed to the public.

STEM Showdown @ Storrie Lake

NMDGF will be participating at the Conservation Science Center STEM Showdown at Storrie Lake. This event is not open to the public.

Habitat Stamp Program Citizen Advisory Meeting @ New Mexico Department of Game and Fish Headquarters

The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish has scheduled a public meeting with the Citizen Advisory Committee. Members of the public are invited to attend this hybrid public meeting in order to provide comments.
