Ladies Fly Fishing 101 Clinic @ NW Area Game & Fish Office - Albuquerque, NM

This classroom session is open to any women who is new to fly fishing. You will learn the basics of fly fishing, equipment selection, fly selection, how to read the the water, landing and releasing skills, what to know before you head out to the water, fishing trip safety, and more! (Casting skills are not covered during this session) This classroom session is a prerequisite to participate in the TU-Ladies Casting Clinic.

Adult Warm-Water Beginner Fishing Class @ Albuquerque Game and Fish Office
Apr 7 @ 9:00 am – 3:00 pm

Class is offered to adults (over 18) who have limited fishing experience. Please do not register if you are an experienced angler or under 18 years of age. Participants will learn how to cast, fish identification, fishing techniques, equipment and gear, knot tying, and rules and regulations. We won’t be fishing but attendees will learn everything necessary to catch black bass, bluegill, catfish, crappie, walleye, white bass and yellow perch. It is non-mandatory, but participants can bring the following: their own rod and reel and a fishing license.

National Wild Turkey Federation WITO Event @ Cloudcroft, NM

The Department will participate at the NWTF Women in the Outdoors Event (WITO) in Cloudcroft, NM. Department staff will be assisting with fishing, turkey calling/hunting and turkey life history presentations.

ATV Safety Class @ Village of Los Lunas River Park

The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish Off-Highway Vehicle Program will present an ATV safety class provided by the Village of Los Lunas Open Space Division. Students earn the safety permit required for off-highway vehicle operators under the age of 18 years. ATVs and safety gear are available for use during the class.

Hunter Education Field Day with Live Fire @ Belen Shooting Sports Association

This course is open to students of any age seeking hunter education certification to meet hunting requirements in New Mexico. This course is an instructor-led student course that incorporates lecture, video, break-out sessions,  review methods and homework to educate students. Students 10 and under must have a parent/adult present with them during class. All students MUST complete the Today’s Hunter student manual homework before participating in class. Students can pick up a free hard copy manual at NM Department Game and Fish Office, 7816 Alamo Rd. NW, Albuquerque, NM 87120. The manual can also be downloaded for free at, Students are required to turn in their completed manual worksheets upon arrival to class.

Registration opens on March 25th and is conducted online through the students Customer Id Number (CIN) Account. Once in the account, click on Hunter Education then click the Register for Hunter Ed Classes button and follow the prompts.

Fly Fishing with Fly Fish NM and Big Brothers Big Sisters @ Tingley Beach
