Hunter Education @ Virden Community Center

This course is open to students of any age seeking hunter education certification to meet hunting requirements in New Mexico. This course is an instructor-led, student course that incorporates lecture, video, break-out sessions, review methods and homework to educate students. Students 10 and under must have a parent/adult present with them during class. All students MUST complete the Today’s Hunter student manual homework before participating in class. Students can pick up a free hard copy manual by contacting Brandon Kempton at 575-534-7901. The manual can also be downloaded for free at, www.hunter-ed.com/newmexico/manual/. Students are required to turn in their completed manual worksheets upon arrival to class.

 

Registration opens on Jan. 30 and is conducted online through the students Customer Id Number (CIN) Account. Once in the account, click on Hunter Education then click the Register for Hunter Ed Classes button and follow the prompts.

Wildlife Presentation at Valencia High School @ Valencia High School

The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish will be giving a wildlife presentation to wildlife students at Valencia High School. This event is not open to the public.

2023 National Archery in the Schools (NASP) New Mexico State Tournament @ Rio Rancho Events Center
Feb 24 – Feb 25 all-day

NASP is an in-school program that introduces target archery to students in 4th-12th grade. Annually the department hosts the New Mexico NASP State Tournament to recognize top teams and individuals throughout the state. We anticipate over 600 archers for this event with 120 archers shooting every hour. Only NASP-certified teams my participate. Team  and individual registration at https://nasptournaments.org/.

Hunter Education – Field Day @ Kewa Library

A Field Day course is an accelerated, instructor-led hunter education course and is for students 10 years of age and older. Students under 11 must have a parent/adult present with them during class. This course incorporates less lecture and review and adds more hands-on components. All students MUST complete the Today’s Hunter student manual homework before class. Students can pick up a free hard copy manual by contacting Ed Rosetta at 505-263-5337 or the manual can be downloaded for free at anytime from, hunter-ed.com/newmexico/manual/. Students are required to turn in their completed manual worksheets upon arrival to class.

Registration opens on Feb. 8, 2023 in person with instructor at Kewa Library, Santo Domingo Pueblo, NM.

ATV Safety Class @ Village of Los Lunas River Park

The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish Off-Highway Vehicle Program presents an ATV safety class provided by the Village of Los Lunas Open Space Division. Students earn the safety permit required for off-highway vehicle operators under the age of 18 years.

ATVs and safety gear are available for use during the class.

Space is limited – all students must have a free account with the Department of Game and Fish (https://onlinesales.wildlife.state.nm.us/). Students must be at least 6 years of age.

Elk presentation @ V. Sue Cleveland High School

The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish will give two presentations on elk to wildlife students at V. Sue Cleveland High School. This event is closed to the public.
