FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, MARCH 28, 2013:

FISHING SEASON OPENS APRIL 1; DON’T FORGET YOUR NEW LICENSE

DRAW APPLICANTS WILL RECEIVE RECEIPTS BY E-MAIL FRIDAY

Hunters and anglers who purchased hunting and fishing licenses while applying online for New Mexico’s 2013-14 big-game licenses should receive receipts for those licenses by e-mail Friday, March 29. The receipts and accompanying authorization numbers will allow customers to:

  • Legally fish in public waters beginning April 1 if they purchased a combination Game-hunting and Fishing license.
  • Purchase a spring turkey license online, by telephone or from a license vendor for the season that begins April 15.
  • Print a copy of their actual license by accessing their account on the Department website, www.wildlife.state.nm.us.

Each receipt will include an authorization number, which on its own serves as either a small-game hunting license or a combination small-game hunting and fishing license, whichever was purchased with the application. Only hunters who did not request refunds will receive receipts by e-mail.
Customers without access to printers or who need assistance can obtain receipts and licenses by calling the Department of Game and Fish toll-free, (888) 248-6866.

Hunting and fishing licenses for the 2013-14 seasons, including spring turkey licenses, are now available at more than 170 vendors statewide; at Department of Game and Fish offices in Santa Fe, Albuquerque, Raton, Roswell and Las Cruces; and by telephone at (888) 248-6866. Resident fishing licenses cost $25 for adults, $5 for youths ages 12-17, and $8 for seniors ages 65-69. Licenses are free for resident anglers ages 70 and older. Combination hunting and fishing, and discounted licenses for disabled and military anglers, also are available.

The application deadline for 2013-14 deer, elk, antelope, oryx, ibex, bighorn sheep, Barbary sheep and javelina was Wednesday, March 20. Results will be available April 24 on the Department website and May 8 by phone. Unsuccessful applicants will receive license-fee refunds in late April.

Anglers and small-game hunters are advised to carry a printed version of their license while in the field, as it serves as the customer’s license. Licenses include personal information about the customer and verification of which types of licenses, stamps and permits were purchased.

For more information, please contact the Department at (888) 248-6866.
