FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, JUNE 12, 2009:

CATCH A TROUT IN THE SANTA FE RIVER

SANTA FE -- Due to winter snowpack and recent rains, the Santa Fe River is projected to flow through the summer in the upper sections below the city reservoirs. That's good for the trout stocked for last weekend's River Festival, and great news for anglers.

Many of the 500 rainbow trout stocked for the festival remain in the river, and the City of Santa Fe and the Department of Game and Fish are encouraging anglers to try to catch them. Recent rains have allowed the river to flow south past Frenchy's Field, carrying some trout with it; however, some sections of the river may dry up when the rainfall ends.

"This is a great opportunity for Santa Feans to get outside and enjoy the living river," Department Fisheries Chief Mike Sloane said.

Anglers ages 12 and older need a fishing license. The daily bag limit is five trout per day and no more than 10 in possession.
