Students 10 and under must have a parent/adult present with them during class. All students MUST complete the Today’s Hunter student manual homework before participating in class. Students can pick up a free hard copy manual at Laguna Police Department North entrance, I-40 West exit 117 on South side of Interstate. The manual can also be downloaded for free at, www.hunter-ed.com/newmexico/manual/. Students are required to turn in their completed manual worksheets upon arrival to class.

Additionally, participants will learn from department conservation officers about their jobs including wildlife investigations, decoy operations, working with wildlife and test their marksmanship skills with bow and arrows. All equipment will be provided.

Traditional and the Field Day Bowhunter Education student courses. This workshop will familiarize you with

hunter program. This workshop will also provide the New Mexico Bowhunter Education certification to new instructors who need a required New Mexico bowhunter education number.

Interested applicants need to first become certified NMDGF volunteers. Below are the steps to become a certified volunteer:

Bowhunter Education Course @ Nm Game & Fish Office

This Bowhunter Education Course is an instructor-led, student course approximately 8 hours in length. This traditional style of course is for students of any age that incorporates lecture, video, hands-on and review methods to educate students. Students 10 and under must have a parent/adult present with them during class. All students MUST complete the Today’s Bowhunter student manual homework or earn the Field Day Qualifier Voucher from the online Bowhunter Course (user pay) at  www.bowhunter-ed.com/newmexico/ before arriving to class. Students can pick up a free hard copy manual from NM Department Game and Fish Office, 7816 Alamo Rd. NW, Albuquerque, NM.  Students are required to turn in their completed worksheets upon arrival to class. Students may bring their own archery equipment to class or can use provided archery equipment.

Sierra Blanca Archery Shoot @ Moon Mountain Disc Gold Course

This will be a 3D archery shoot competition where youth will compete for prizes such as belt buckles and bows. There will also be a team (duo) competition where an adult and a youth pair up and compete against other teams for belt buckles. Archery equipment will be provided. Individuals can use their own equipment for fun but in order to compete for prizes they have to use our equipment. Food and drinks will be provided.

No registration. Need to finish shooting by 11 a.m.

Ute Lake Outdoor Day @ Ute Lake State Park ( McFarland Ramp Overlook)

Outdoor Day at Ute Lake State Park in Logan. Activities will include the Poach Coach, pellet gun trailer, casting demonstrations, wildlife identification presentation, archery (NASP) and water safety presentation by New Mexico State Parks. NMDGF Officers and State Park Rangers will be present and putting on the event. It will be a busy weekend at the lake, and, weathering permitting, should be a large turnout.

Advanced Hunter Education Camp @ Camp Whinahpay

The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish is hosting a special hunter education camp at Camp Wehinahpay in the beautiful Sacramento Mountains east of Alamogordo. Registration for this unique, advanced hunter education course opens Thursday, July 6, to youth 10 years of age and older who have not yet passed hunter education. Youth must be 10 at the time of registration and have an adult register and participate in the camp with them.

Participants will build on their hunter education knowledge gained from an online course prerequisite while at camp and also shoot .22 rifles, practice archery and fish! This is a FREE opportunity. Participants will be responsible for their own camping gear (tents, sleeping bags or campers) and meals will be provided Saturday lunch through Sunday lunch.
