ATV safety class @ New Mexico Department of Game & Fish Southeast Area Office, Roswell, NM

New Mexico Department of Game and Fish Off-Highway Vehicle Program staff will present an ATV safety class at the Department’s Southeast Area Office in Roswell, New Mexico. Students completing the class receive the safety permit required for off-highway vehicle operators under the age of 18 years on public lands. Students under the age of 18 will also receive a free helmet and goggles. ATVs and safety gear will be available for use during the class.

Registration Details:
Students must be at least 6 years of age. Space is limited – all students must already have or must create a free account with the Department of Game and Fish (https://onlinesales.wildlife.state.nm.us/), and register prior to the class to ensure that each student will have an age- and size-appropriate training ATV available.

New Mexico Youth Hunter Education Challenge @ NRA Wittington Center, Raton, NM

The Department will be assisting the New Mexico YHEC 501c3 with putting on this year’s youth hunter education challenge.

New Mexico Youth Hunter Education Challenge (YHEC) is held once a year for kids ages 7-18 to help improve their hunting, marksmanship and safety skills.

Through simulated hunting situations, live fire competitions, and responsible hunting events, YHEC helps build upon skills learned in basic hunter education courses and encourages safer, lifelong hunting habits.

From rifle, bow and muzzleloader shooting at life-sized targets, to wildlife identification, map and compass orienteering and more, YHEC participants get hands-on training in eight skill areas, giving them expertise in all hunting practices.

Registration for the Youth Hunter Education Challenge (YHEC) will be on nmyhec.com.
Participants must have taken a hunter education class to compete.

Outdoor Adventure Day Off-highway vehicle public information and outreach @ Liam Knight Pond

The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish Off-Highway Vehicle Program will be conducting public outreach and education at the NMDGF Outdoor Adventure Day at Liam Knight Pond in Corrales, NM. The OHV Program will be offering demonstration rides on its ATV simulator and giving out swag bags for kids.

Torrance County Tractor Parade Off-highway vehicle public information and outreach @ Arthur Park

Hunter Education Instructor Training Workshop @ NM Department of Game and Fish Southwest Area Las Cruces

This workshop is required to become a certified hunter education instructor and will certify the instructor to teach both the Traditional and the Field Day Hunter Education student courses. This workshop will also provide the NM Hunter Education certification to new instructors who need a required NM hunter education number. All participants must register prior to attending. Please see registration details below.

Registration Details:

Interested applicants need to first become certified Game and Fish volunteers. Below are the steps to become a certified volunteer:

1. Create a Customer Identification Account (CIN) with the Department at https://onlinesales.wildlife.state.nm.us/

2. Email Chris Jarvis at chris.jarvis@dgf.nm.gov for complete volunteer on-boarding packet.

3.Once the application is approved, certified volunteers can sign-up for the hunter education workshop through their CIN account
