This fishing clinic is for the fourth-grade students of Mesa View School. The fishing clinic will consist of fishing safety, knots, equipment, casting, and fish identification. Fishing will be at the Riverwalk.
New Mexico Administrative Services Division employees will participate in a 3-D Archery Adventure Shoot training. Participants will walk a pre-determined course in small groups. Each archer gets one to three shots at a three-dimensional target shaped like an animal. The targets on the animals cover the vital areas where a hunter would normally aim. This course challenge archers to adapt their shooting to account for variable conditions, distances, and angles. Participants will learn how to score a target and track their individual score.

Department staff will be teaching a fishing lesson to three different elementary school classes that are participating in the Trout in the Classroom (TIC) program. The students will be learning how to assemble rods, tie knots, bait hooks, cast safely and catch, land and release fish. This event is closed to the public.
The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish Aquatic Education program will be working the fishing station with the Village of Pecos, and Trout Unlimited, Truchas Chapter for Free Fishing Day on June 1, 2024 at Monastery Lake. The Department will loan fishing rigs, tackle and bait to participants in need of equipment.

The morning session will focus on fly fishing equipment selection, knot tying, selecting lures/flies, casting instruction and general discussions on where to go. The afternoon session will be on the water! Casting and fishing instruction will be provided by professional fishing guides and Trout Unlimited -Enchanted Circle Chapter volunteers. Loaner equipment will be provided but participants are encouraged to bring their own if they have it.
This class will be offered by volunteers from the Enchanted Circle Chapter of Trout Unlimited.

We will have a reserved group camping area at the State Park. Open to families and individuals with previous fishing experience but that have never fished for Tiger Muskie.

This classroom session is open to any women who is new to fly fishing. You will learn the basics of fly fishing, equipment selection, fly selection, how to read the the water, landing and releasing skills, what to know before you head out to the water, fishing trip safety, and more! (Casting skills are not covered during this session) This classroom session is a prerequisite to participate in the TU-Ladies Casting Clinic.
