This camp is for participants of any age who is interested in learning more about the basics of archery and bow hunting. Participants will learn archery basics and safety, how to choose equipment, proper shot placement while hunting, outdoor preparedness, and more!
All archery equipment will be provided however, participants are encouraged to bring their own equipment if they have it. Camping is available at the State Park per reservation. Participants are responsible for all food and drinks. Youth under 18 must have a parent or adult present during the camp.

New Mexico Department of Game and Fish Aquatic Education Program staff will be fishing with the city of Rio Rancho Parks and Recreation & Community Service, Division of Senior Services, at Liam Knight Pond, Corrales, New Mexico on May 21, 2024. The event is closed to the public.
New Mexico Administrative Services Division employees will participate in a 3-D Archery Adventure Shoot training. Participants will walk a pre-determined course in small groups. Each archer gets one to three shots at a three-dimensional target shaped like an animal. The targets on the animals cover the vital areas where a hunter would normally aim. This course challenge archers to adapt their shooting to account for variable conditions, distances, and angles. Participants will learn how to score a target and track their individual score.

New Mexico Youth Hunter Education Challenge (YHEC) is held once a year for kids ages 7-18 to help improve their hunting, marksmanship and safety skills.
Through simulated hunting situations, live fire competitions, and responsible hunting events, YHEC helps build upon skills learned in basic hunter education courses and encourages safer, lifelong hunting habits.
From rifle, bow and muzzleloader shooting at life-sized targets, to wildlife identification, map and compass orienteering and more, YHEC participants get hands-on training in eight skill areas, giving them expertise in all hunting practices.

The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish Aquatic Education program will be working the fishing station with the Village of Pecos, and Trout Unlimited, Truchas Chapter for Free Fishing Day on June 1, 2024 at Monastery Lake. This class is open to families who are interested in learning the basics of fly fishing. The morning session will focus on fly fishing equipment selection, knot tying, selecting lures/flies, casting instruction and general discussions on where to go. The afternoon session will be on the water! Casting and fishing instruction will be provided by professional fishing guides and Trout Unlimited -Enchanted Circle Chapter volunteers. Loaner equipment will be provided but participants are encouraged to bring their own if they have it.
This class will be offered by volunteers from the Enchanted Circle Chapter of Trout Unlimited.

Campers will be provided with everything from instruction to gear to meals. Campers will need to provide their own fishing licenses, tent or wheeled camper, sleeping bag, and sleeping pad. We will have a reserved group camping area at the State Park. Open to families and individuals with previous fishing experience but that have never fished for Tiger Muskie.
Registration will open at 8 am on Wednesday, May 22, 2024. It will close when the camp is full. Please only register if you have not previously attended this camp. Those under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
