NM Wildlife Federation – Nature Niños “Tiny Trees Fishing Days” Classes 1 and 2 @ Liam Knight Pond

A fishing day will be held for The Nature Niños “Tiny Trees” (TT) class. Youth ages four through eight will learn, explore, and connect with our local natural spaces and grow their outdoor passions. Today’s class will cover basic fishing skill (casting, catch-and-release, and ethical fish harvesting). The Department will help teach angling essentials, such as fish species/anatomy, habitat, diet, understanding fishing gear, tying knots, safety and so on. This will also include hands-on practice casting, rod-and-reel assembly, and patience with fishing.

ATV safety class @ New Mexico Department of Game & Fish Southeast Area Office, Roswell, NM

New Mexico Department of Game and Fish Off-Highway Vehicle Program staff will present an ATV safety class at the Department’s Southeast Area Office in Roswell, New Mexico. Students completing the class receive the safety permit required for off-highway vehicle operators under the age of 18 years on public lands. Students under the age of 18 will also receive a free helmet and goggles. ATVs and safety gear will be available for use during the class.

Registration Details:
Students must be at least 6 years of age. Space is limited – all students must already have or must create a free account with the Department of Game and Fish (https://onlinesales.wildlife.state.nm.us/), and register prior to the class to ensure that each student will have an age- and size-appropriate training ATV available.

Ladies Fly Fishing – Casting Clinic @ NW Area Game & Fish Office - Albuquerque, NM

This class is open to any lady seeking to learn or improve on their fly fishing, casting skills and abilities. Participants will receive instruction and coaching from Trish Valdez and other Trout Unlimited – Bosque Chapter members to gain or improve their fly casting skills for fly fishing. No equipment is necessary but ladies are encouraged to bring their own if they have it. This is for all levels of angler!

A fishing classroom day will be held for James Bickley’s 3rd Grade Classroom 1. The following topics:

What is Fishing?, types of NM fish species/anatomy, habitat, diet, understanding fishing gear, tying knots, safety, and so on. This will also include a demonstration of how to assemble the rod and reel, which will be put into practice during the fishing day that follows this class.

3-D Archery Adventure with SMU-in-Taos @ Fort Burgwin

SMU-in-Taos Summer College Program will participate in a 3-D Archery Adventure Shoot. College-age students will walk a pre-determined course in small groups. Each archer gets a one to three shots at a three-dimensional target shaped like an animal. The targets on the animals cover the vital areas where a hunter would normally aim. These courses challenge archers to adapt their shooting to account for variable conditions, distances and angles. Students will learn how to score a target and track their individual score.

Private event. – Must be pre-enrolled through the SMU-in-Taos summer program.

Bowhunter Skills Camp @ Manzano Mountains State Park
May 18 @ 9:00 am – 3:00 pm

This camp is for participants of any age who is interested in learning more about the basics of archery and bow hunting. Participants will learn archery basics and safety, how to choose equipment, proper shot placement while hunting, outdoor preparedness, and more!

All archery equipment will be provided however, participants are encouraged to bring their own equipment if they have it. Camping is available at the State Park per reservation. Participants are responsible for all food and drinks. Youth under 18 must have a parent or adult present during the camp.
