Hunter Education Course @ Roosevelt County Fairgrounds, (Jake Lopez Bldg.),705 E Lime St., Portales, NM 88130 (Roosevelt County)).

This course includes a live fire session on the Department’s pellet rifle trailer and is open to students of any age seeking hunter education certification to meet hunting requirements in New Mexico. This course is an instructor-led student course that incorporates lecture, video, break-out sessions, review methods and homework to educate students. Students 10 and under must have a parent/adult present with them during class. All students MUST complete the Today’s Hunter student manual homework before participating in class. Students can pick up a free hard copy manual at the Creightons Town and Country, 1625 S. Avenue D, Portales, NM 88130, or the manual can also be downloaded for free at https://www.hunter-ed.com/newmexico/manual/. Students are required to turn in their completed manual worksheets and live-fire authorization forms upon arrival to class.

Registration Details:

Registration opens on Sept. 18, 2023, at 9 a.m. and is conducted online through the student’s Customer ID Number (CIN) Account. Once in the account, click on Hunter Education then click the Register for Hunter Ed Classes button and follow the prompts.

Fishing with Dolores Gonzales Elementary School @ Tingley Beach

New Mexico Department of Game and Fish Aquatic Education program staff will be fishing with 40 elementary school kids from Dolores Gonzales Elementary School at Tingley Beach. Department staff will review knot tying, setting up a fishing rig and casting procedures and how to put a rig together. Participants will then set up their own rigs to fish.

Elk and Other Wildlife booth at Valles Caldera @ Valles Caldera
