Adult quail hunting camp @ Bottomless Lakes State Park campground
Feb 10 @ 7:00 am – 7:30 pm

Participants will learn how to identify quail, practice clay shooting, quail hunt and field dress quail. They will also learn about rules and regulations and receive a refresher on hunter safety. Camping will take place at Bottomless Lakes State Park campground near Roswell and the hunt will take place on nearby public land.

Registration Details:

  • Would like women and men over 18 years of age who have never hunted before.
  • Registration Opens – Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2024, at 9 a.m.
  • Registration Closes – When full.
  • Participant Orientation on Zoom – Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2024, from 6-6:45 p.m. Attendance is MANDATORY.
  • Zoom link will be emailed to successful registrants on Friday, Feb. 2.

Hunter Education @ Bloomfield, NM
Feb 10 @ 8:00 am – 6:00 pm

This course is open to students of any age seeking hunter education certification to meet hunting requirements in New Mexico. This course is an instructor-led student course that incorporates lecture, video, hands-on break-out sessions, review methods and homework to educate students. Students 10 and under must have a parent or adult present with them during class. All registered students MUST complete the Today’s Hunter student manual homework before participating in class. The manual can be downloaded for free at www.hunter-ed.com/newmexico/manual/ or students can pick up a free hard copy manual at Bloomfield Pawn Shop, 708 W. Broadway Ave., Bloomfield, NM 87413, (Please call for store hours (505) 632-2972). Students are required to turn in their completed manual worksheets upon arrival to class.

This course is open to students 10 years of age and older seeking hunter education certification to meet hunting requirements in New Mexico. This course is an instructor-led student course that incorporates lecture, video, hands-on break-out sessions and homework to educate students. Students under 11 must have a parent or adult present with them during class. All registered students MUST complete the Today’s Hunter student manual homework before participating in class. The manual can be downloaded for free at www.hunter-ed.com/newmexico/manual/ or students can pick up a free hard copy manual by calling the instructor. Students are required to turn in their completed manual worksheets upon arrival to class.

Wild turkey hunting workshop @ New Mexico Department of Game and Fish
Feb 10 @ 9:00 am – 4:30 pm

Spend a day with us to learn more about wild turkeys, their habits, and hunting them. This class is open to 20 registered participants (registration opens on January 29, 2024 at 9 a.m.). Learn the following:

  • Wild turkey biology and history of their conservation
  • How to hunt wild turkeys *Essential turkey hunting gear
  • Using onX
  • How to call wild turkeys
  • Survival
  • Licensing and hunting regulations
  • Shot placement

This workshop will allow you plenty of time to get your gear together, scout and practice calls before the general spring season opens on April 15th!

ATV safety class @ Doña Ana County Fairgrounds racetrack
Feb 10 @ 9:30 am – 3:30 pm

The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish Off-Highway Vehicle Program presents an ATV safety class at the old racetrack at the Doña Ana County Fairgrounds, site of the Southern New Mexico State Fair.

Students completing the class receive the safety permit required for off-highway vehicle operators under the age of 18 years on public lands. Students under the age of 18 will also receive a free helmet and goggles.

ATVs and safety gear will be available for use during the class.

Registration Details:

Students must be at least 6 years of age. Space is limited – all students must already have or must create a free account with the Department of Game and Fish (https://onlinesales.wildlife.state.nm.us/), and register prior to the class to ensure that each student will have an age- and size-appropriate training ATV available.

Hunter Education with Live Fire @ Carlsbad Shooting Range
Feb 10 @ 9:00 pm – 10:00 pm

This course is open to students of any age seeking hunter education certification to meet hunting requirements in New Mexico. This course is an instructor-led student course that incorporates lecture, video, hands-on break-out sessions, review methods and homework to educate students. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to participate in a live fire component on the Department’s pellet rifle shooting trailer. Students 10 and under must have a parent or adult present with them during class. All registered students MUST complete the Today’s Hunter student manual homework before participating in class. The manual can be downloaded for free at www.hunter-ed.com/newmexico/manual/ or students can pick up a free hard copy manual at Courtesy Sporting & Pawn, 1095 N. Canal St., Carlsbad, NM 88220.
