ATV Safety Class @ Doña Ana County Fairgrounds Racetrack

The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish Off-Highway Vehicle Program presents an ATV safety class at the old racetrack at the Doña Ana County Fairgrounds, site of the Southern New Mexico State Fair.

Students completing the class receive the safety permit required for off-highway vehicle operators under the age of 18 years on public lands. Students under the age of 18 will also receive a free helmet and goggles.

ATVs and safety gear will be available for use during the class.

Students must be at least 6 years of age. Space is limited; all students must already have or must create a free account with the Department of Game and Fish (https://onlinesales.wildlife.state.nm.us/), and register prior to the class. This ensures that each student will have an age and size-appropriate training ATV available.

Game Commission to meet Jan. 27

SANTA FE – The New Mexico State Game Commission will hold a virtual meeting starting at 9 a.m., Friday, Jan. 27. The full agenda, attendee information and additional information will be available on the Department of Game and Fish website.

If you are interested in participating in the meeting and providing comments, you are encouraged to pre-register to attend the meeting on the Zoom Webinar platform. Participants can attend the virtual meeting using a desktop computer, mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets, or by telephone. In addition, there will be a live webcast on the Department’s website for those who wish to only view or listen to the meeting.

If you are an individual with a disability who needs a reader, amplifier, qualified sign language interpreter or any other form of auxiliary aid or service to attend or participate in the meeting, please contact Ryan Darr at 505-476-8027 or ryan.darr@dgf.nm.gov. Ladies Hunting and Angling Social Hour @ Hybrid (in-person and Zoom)

Come join us Wed., Feb. 8 at 6 p.m. either in person in Albuquerque at Nexxus Brewing, 4730 Pan American Fwy NE, or in Las Cruces at the SW Area Game and Fish Office, 2715 Northrise Dr. If you are unable to participate in person you can register to participate virtually at the link provided below.

Is applying for hunts intimidating? Does it make your brain hurt? Are you new and don’t know where to start? Maybe you want to know how to read the available draw hunt odds to improve your hunting opportunities. Perhaps you just need a little guidance on the draw application process. If any of these apply to you, or maybe you have other reasons or questions, come join us! We are making ourselves available to help you navigate through the Big Game Rules and Information Booklet and how to use this resource to apply for the 2023-2024 hunt season. If you had a hunt this past season and are unfamiliar with how to fill out your harvest report, we can help!

Hunt applications can be entered on a computer, laptop, tablet or phone! Bring one of these devices with you or one will be available if you don’t have one. While this event is focused on ladies, but we welcome everyone to join us.

If you answered YES to any of these or you just want to improve your archery or bowhunting skills come join us for our March social hour sessions.

For March, we are offering a two-part session. Come join us virtually on Tuesday, March 14 at 5:30 p.m., and learn about archery and bowhunting. There will be information provided during the entire session that will be beneficial to individuals of all skill levels. In addition to the virtual session, two in-person sessions will be hosted in partnership with local archery shops in Albuquerque and Las Cruces.

On March 17 at 6pm, if you would like to participate in the Intro to Archery for Women session in Albuquerque, please contact Gina Chavez at the Archery Shoppe to register, 505-292-3744. You will need to RSVP by March 15 to participate in the in-person session (a registration fee will apply). Food and drinks are included.

On March 18 at 10am, you can attend our Intro to Archery and Bowhunting session hosted by Helen Butt at High Desert Archery in Las Cruces. The NMDGF Aquatic Education Program will be working with 28 boys, ages 5-10, from the East Mountain Area Trail Life Troop Program. The kids will learn to put a rig together, tie a knot, and practice casting before fishing. There will be 16 adults present.
