Classroom Presentations and Fishing Clinic @ Red River Valley Charter School

NMDGF will give presentations that focus on fish biology, fishing safety, fishing knots, rules and regulations, equipment preparation, casting and fishing opportunities in New Mexico. At the lake, the students will assemble their gear and go fishing. We normally practice catch and release; however, a few fish will be kept for dissection purposes. This event is closed to the public.

Hunter Education – Dexter, New Mexico @ Dexter High School

This course will be conducted during the school day to Dexter High School students seeking hunter education certification to meet hunting requirements in New Mexico. This course is an instructor-led, student course that incorporates lecture, video, break-out sessions, review methods and homework to educate students. All students will complete the Today’s Hunter student manual homework during class. Students pick up a free hard copy manual during Felix Hernandez’s class. The manual can also be downloaded for free at www.hunter-ed.com/newmexico/manual/This event is closed to the public.

3D Archery Fun Shoot @ New Mexico Department of Game and Fish Headquarters (near the pond)

NMDGF employees are encouraged to participate in a 3D archery fun shoot at the Santa Fe office. Beginners are welcome and all equipment (user friendly) is provided. The archery range will be a walking range (just like if you were golfing) but with 10-15 targets. Archers will be groups with two to three other archers to walk the range. Each archer will shoot once, score their arrow and proceed to the next target. Scores will be tabulated at the conclusion of the event. This event is closed to the public.

Students completing the class receive the safety permit required for off-highway vehicle operators under the age of 18 years. Students under the age of 18 will also receive a free helmet and goggles. ATVs and safety gear are available for use during the class.

Students must be at least 6 years of age. Ribbon Cutting: Clovis Wing-Shooting Complex and Archery Range @ Ned Houk Park

The City of Clovis, in cooperation with NMDGF, is excited to announce the opening of the Clovis Wing-Shooting Complex and Archery Range at Ned Houk Park, located at 726 C R 17. This newly constructed multi-faceted facility includes four trap/skeet overlay fields, a 12-station sporting clays course, indoor and outdoor archery ranges, an indoor airgun range, and a multipurpose building for hunter education and other activities. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be open to the public on Oct. 25, 2022, beginning at 11:30 a.m.

A Field Day course is an accelerated instructor-led hunter education course and is for students 10 years of age and older. Students under 11 must have a parent/adult present with them during class. This course incorporates less lecture and review and adds more hands-on components. All students MUST complete the Today’s Hunter student manual homework before class. Students can pick up a free hard copy manual at Sydney Paul Gordon Shooting Range, Rock Cliff Rd., La Luz, NM 88337 starting Oct. 12, or the manual can be downloaded for free at any time from hunter-ed.com/newmexico/manual/. Students are required to turn in their completed manual worksheets upon arrival to class.

Registration opens on Oct. 12th and is conducted online through the students Customer ID Number (CIN) Account. Once in the account, click on “Hunter Education,” then click the “Register for Hunter Ed Classes” button and follow the prompts.

Bowhunter Education Course @ NMDGF Roswell Office
