First-time Hunter Workshop and Dove Hunt @ Roswell and Artesia*

Aug. 26 6-8 p.m., Aug. 27 3-7 p.m., Aug. 28 6 a.m.-1 p.m.
*The workshop will occur at the Roswell Department of Game and Fish Office. The hunt will occur in Artesia.

A first-time hunter workshop and dove hunt will occur over a three day period. The workshop will occur at the Roswell Department of Game and Fish Office and the hunt will take place in Artesia. This event is open to individuals 18 and over who have never purchased a hunting license, or have not purchased a hunting license in the last five years. Adults are encouraged to bring a youth to participate with them. The first day will consist of classroom instruction on basic hunting skills and gun safety. The second day, participants will practice shooting clay pigeons at the trap range. The third day will consist of a dove hunt that morning. Shotguns and ammunition will be provided for participants or they may bring their own.

18th Annual Dragonfly Festival @ Bitter Lake National Wildlife Refuge

The 18th Annual Dragonfly Festival will be held Sept. 7. The Department of Game and Fish will have a fishing pond, archery range, poach coach and wildlife identification information on site. No fee or registration is required to attend this event. However, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will be offering free guided wildlife tours. Reservations are required for these tours. Hunter Education Youth Antelope Hunt @ Vermejo Park Reserve - Cimarron

This hunt is a collaboration of VPR and NMDGF to reward HE graduates from w/in the year who excel on their HE course. The NM Wild Sheep Foundation sponsors the tags.

Hunter Education Instructor Training Workshop @ NMDGF Santa Fe

This workshop is required to become a certified hunter education instructor and will certify you to teach both the Standard and the Field Day Hunter Education student courses. This workshop will also provide the NM Hunter Education certification to new instructors who need a required NM hunter education number.
